Hide Files in Android
Nowadays mobile phones are ruling the world. Android is one of the leading Operating System designed to use in touch screen mobiles. Every day new smartphones are featuring in the market. People use their phones for not only for calls and messages; smartphones are also used for storing important documents like images, music, and videos. Everyone has their own personal and highly confidential data on their mobile phones. To maintain the secrecy and privacy of such documents you may need to hide the files. Here are some step by step methods to hide and unhide files/folders in the Android phones without using any applications.
HIDE A FILE/FOLDER USING FILE MANAGER:
All smartphones have built-in file managers which hold all the files and folders of that mobile. Using those file managers files/folders can be hidden.
Step 1: Get the file that you want to hide either on your memory card or on the phone memory.
Step 2: Now go to the file manager. Tap-hold the file/folder that you wish to hide and select more option-> rename.
Step 3: rename the file/folder with a dot (.) as prefix. Example: rename the file ‘X’ as ‘.X’. Now the file/folder will be displayed in a highlighted color.
Step 4: Go to more options and select ‘HIDE HIDDEN FILES OPTIONS’. This will make the file invisible to your phone.
UNHIDE A FILE/FOLDER:
Follow these steps to unhide a folder,
Step 1: Go to the file manager option in your phone and select ‘more options’ from the down right corner.
Step 2: Select ‘SHOW HIDDEN FILES’ option. It shows all the hidden files.
Step 3: select the file that you want to unhide. Go to more options and select rename. Remove the dot that you added to the file/folder name while hiding it. Example: ’.X’ as ‘X’. Now the file becomes visible.
HIDE A FILE/FOLDER USING UNRECOGNIZABLE EXTENSION:
This is a very simple method to hide a file/folder. Android mobiles cannot recognize some extensions. You could use such extensions to hide the file. Here are the steps,
Step 1: Go to file manager and select the file/folder that you want to unhide.
Step 2: select more options->rename.
Step 3: Rename the file/folder with some unrecognizable extension. Example: rename a file ‘X.mp3’ as ‘X.zip’.
Note that this method will show the file, only the contents of the folder remains invisible.to make the files visible just rename it with the original extension.
