The Apple Watch is a great way to change your life when it comes to fitness. The fact that you can actually track your metrics as calories burnt, timings, heart rate, and other trends that come along with the Apple Watch will give you a better look at how things are looking healthwise.
In this article, we will look at how you can change your exercise goals (hopefully increase) and improve yourself towards your fitness journey. I’m using the Apple Watch 5 with watchOS 9 for the purpose of this tutorial. In case you have older versions or different devices, it shouldn’t be difficult to follow.
Fitness in Apple Watch
Apple has dramatically changed the Fitness industry with its revolutionary Apple Watch which has been used by 100 million people all around the world which is a great thing considering there are only 1 billion iPhone users in the world. 1 out of every 10 iPhone users has an Apple Watch.

They have so many built-in workouts like Walking, Running, Cycling, HIIT, Strength Training, Dance, Pilates and so much more. In addition to that, you have the ability to share your health and fitness goals with your friends and so much more. Also, one feature that people want a lot is the ability to create fitness challenges with your friends and compete (hopefully win) them.
How to Change Exercise Goal?
So, let’s see how we can change the exercise goal in your Apple Watch or your general activity to be precise. For the purpose of this tutorial, the screenshots are taken from an iPhone which has iOS 16. So, in case you have previous versions, you should still be able to follow them without much difficulty.

- Open the Fitness App on your iOS smartphone. In case you don’t have iOS 16, then open the Activity app.
- Once you are on the landing page, you will see the fitness summary of the day. Tap on today’s fitness stat.
- You will be taken to the details page. Scroll down and look for the option Change Goals and select that.
- In the Change goals window, first, you will see the Move Goal. If you don’t have to make any changes, you will see a Change Move Goal at the bottom of the screen as you can see in the screenshot below go ahead and select it.
- On the next page, you will be able to set your exercise goal. The Exercise goal is set in minutes so you can add or reduce from the minutes shown on the page. Once done, select Change Exercise Goal at the bottom.

That’s it. You have successfully updated the exercise goal on the Apple Watch. The changes that you make here will be updated in the Apple Watch as well. You can change the fitness goals whenever you want and your overall goals will be updated in the past stats as well.
Apple Watch will continue to improve and build in the coming year, especially with the introduction of the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple seems to be finding ways to improve and bring new things to the wearable device. Another trend is that Apple has been introducing new workouts with watchOS updates as well like Dance, Pilates and so more which were introduced recently.
