After years of being mobile-only or Creator Studio only way to post anything on Instagram, Finally, Facebook-owned Social media has finally come around to posting posts directly from the browser. Previously there were many other ways to do it, but finally, now they have a direct way to post it from the browser.
One easy hack was to open Instagram.com in the browser and change the mode from browser to mobile. This would change the browser view of Instagram into how it would look exactly in a mobile or mobile browser.
So, as I said earlier, Instagram has slowly started rolling out the Create Post feature for a lot of users all across the world. Doing some research, I was able to figure out that Instagram hasn’t rolled out the feature to certain countries or even by follower count or something. So, ideally, it would be very early days of rolling out the feature.
Steps to Make Instagram Posts in Computer
- First things first, if you happen to have this feature, open www.instagram.com in your preferred browser. It really doesn’t matter which one but I’m guessing you would go with Google Chrome or Safari.
- If you have never used Instagram on the browser before, you might be taken to the Login page where you could put in the login details and then login. But if have used already you might be directly in the home page.
- Once you are there, you would see the Create Post button next to the Messenger icon at the top right corner of the screen as you can see here. Also, when this feature is newly added, you would see this popup saying Now you can create and share posts directly from your computer.
- Click on the Plus icon and this popup appears where you can drag and drop files like photos or videos which are required for the post. Otherwise you could also click Select From Computer button and then choose the files from the Browse window.
- Once the files for the post are added, The first step would be to choose the size of the photos. The sizes available are Original Size, Square, Portrait in 4:5 and also Landscape 16:9. Choose the appropriate size from the list that works for the image and Choose Next.
- The next page is about filters and image edit. In the Filters window, choose the appropriate filter if you think its necessary or else you can skip it by not doing anything. You would find all the filters that you would see in the mobile. In case if you choose to make image adjustments yourself, tap on the Edit Tab and do it yourself.
- All the major adjustments like Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Temperature, Fade, Vignette are available in the Edit section. Make the appropriate edit and once you are done, you could proceed to the Description screen by clicking Next.
- In the Compose window, similar to the smartphone view, You would see the description, location, Accessibility settings, Advanced settings like Turn off commenting. Do all the respective changes to the post in the Compose Window and once you are done and happy, click on Share.
Now, your post would be shared immediately with all the users on your page. It doesn’t have any feature that lets you schedule posts for a later time. If you want that feature you might want to check out Creator Studio which I have personally used which lets you schedule posts. Creator Studio is a little pain in the wrong place to set up initially. But once you have it up and running, it’s easy to post content every day if you wish so.
Along with this feature, Instagram has added some more new changes to the Browser view of Instagram. Some of them are:
- Suggested Posts in user’s main feed
- Option to hide like counts
- Live Feature with mute and disabling video.
There are also many minor changes that are in Instagram’s Browser view and we can definitely expect many more to come in the upcoming days.
These changes are mainly because of the fact that Instagram has become more than just a photo-sharing site which was the original purpose. Keeping this in mind, we can be sure that Facebook is diligently working on making more mobile-centric features directly available to the Browser version.
I have to say that bringing going Live from the Browser would be a great feature considering a lot of people are at home and using the Computer way more than before.
